Rosés and Clairets

The Bordeaux rosés and clairets are produced throughout the Gironde district, mainly from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The difference in colour with red wines is the result of the shorter maceration with grape skins. They are characterized by their freshness and fruity flavours, and must be drunk when young. The Clairet is a specific Bordeaux appellation ( which comes from the Middle Age Clarets, that was the name that the English gave to the red Bordeaux wines at this time ), and is like a strong bodied rosé, or a light red that can be drunk chilled.
